Getting started
Creating your business and finding your way around.
How do I create my business on Cauvie?
- Go to Get started and enter your business name, the kind of business, your name, email and a password.
- We email you a confirmation link. Open it within 48 hours.
- That's it: you land in your admin, where you add your items, hours and payment details.
Your website stays off until you choose a web address, so you can set things up first.
Which kind of business should I pick?
Pick the one closest to what you do. It decides the wording on your website (a Menu for a café, Services for a salon, a Shop for a store), your starter design, and whether customers pay online or ask for a booking or a quote.
You can change it any time in Settings › Business › Business profile. Changing it never rewrites a website you've already designed.
I didn't get the confirmation email
Look in your spam, junk or promotions folder for an email from Cauvie. The link works for 48 hours.
Still nothing? Write to us with the email you signed up with and we'll sort it out.
What's on my admin Home page?
Today's sales at a glance: net sales, transactions, average sale, tips and refunds, compared with the day before. Use the menu on the left for items, orders, customers, reports and settings.
Your website
Turning it on, designing it and getting found.
How do I turn my website on?
Open Settings › Business › Website › Web address & domain, type the address you'd like and check it's free. Your site goes live at yourname.cauvie.store.
Can I change my web address?
Yes. In Web address & domain choose Change, type the new address and check it's available. The old address stops working once you move, so update any links you've shared.
How do I use my own domain, like www.mybusiness.com?
- Open Web address & domain and add your domain under Custom domain.
- We show you one DNS record. Add it where you bought the domain (GoDaddy, Namecheap, Google Domains and so on).
- Come back and press Check now. It usually goes live within an hour; DNS changes can take up to a day.
How do I change how my website looks?
Go to Settings › Business › Website › Design & sections. The tabs across the top are your pages. Pick a style and colours on Site, add and reorder sections on each page, and watch the preview on the right. Nothing changes for customers until you press Save and publish.
Want a fresh start? Start from a design for your business loads a ready-made design you can still discard.
Can I rename pages like Menu or Services?
Yes. On the Site tab of Design & sections, use Page names. Your new names show in the menu bar, the footer and the browser tab. Leave a name empty to go back to the default for your kind of business.
How do I show up on Google?
Your website already tells Google your name, address, phone and opening hours. To fine-tune it, open the Site tab of Design & sections and fill in Search & sharing: the title and description people see in results and when your link is shared.
For faster listing, add your address in Google Search Console and submit /sitemap.xml. A Google Business Profile helps most for "near me" searches.
How do customers join my email list?
The subscribe box above your website's footer collects emails. Change its heading, button and colours, or switch it off, in Subscribe box on the Site tab. Everyone who joins is listed in Customers › Email subscribers.
Orders & payments
Getting paid, refunds and order alerts.
How do I accept card payments?
Open Settings › Payments › Payment methods & payouts and connect Stripe. It takes a few minutes and asks for your bank details. Until it's connected, online checkout and Take a payment stay off.
When does the money reach my bank?
Card payments go into your own Stripe account and Stripe sends them to your bank, usually a couple of business days after each sale. On Payment methods & payouts, the Payouts tab shows your balance, what's on its way and every past payout, and lets you change the schedule or ask for an instant payout.
What does each card payment cost?
Stripe's processing fee (a small percentage plus a few cents) and 5¢ for Cauvie. Both come out before the money reaches your bank, so you never get a separate bill. If you refund a payment in full, Cauvie's 5¢ is refunded too.
How do I refund a customer?
Open the order under Orders & payments › All orders and choose Refund. You can refund all of it or part of it, and the money goes back to the customer's card.
Who gets an email for each new order?
Set it in Settings › Notifications. If you have several locations, each one can email different people, and you can switch a location's emails off.
Can I pause online ordering when we're busy?
Yes. In Settings › Hours & ordering you can pause online ordering for one location or all of them, with a short message for customers, and turn it back on when you're ready.
Where do I set tips, delivery fees and sales tax?
Tips, pickup times and delivery are in Settings › Tips, pickup & delivery. Sales tax rates are in Settings › Sales taxes, and extra fees in Service charges.
Do customers get a receipt?
Switch it on in Settings › Receipts. Customers who give their email get a receipt listing what they bought and what they paid.
Items & menu
What you sell, and where.
How do I add what I sell?
Open Items. Add a category, then add items with a price, description and photo. Options like sizes and extras can be added to any item.
Something's sold out. How do I hide it?
In Items, mark it sold out. With several locations you can mark it sold out at just one of them. It comes back when you switch it on again.
Can I offer coupons or gift cards?
Yes, under Settings › Coupons & gift cards. Customers enter the code at checkout.
Team & sign-in
Who can do what, and keeping your account safe.
How do I add my team?
Go to Settings › Account Settings › Team and invite people by email as a Manager or Staff.
- Managers run the day to day: items, orders, website and most settings.
- Staff take payments and handle orders.
- Only the owner can manage the team, payouts and sign-in security.
I forgot my password
On the sign-in page, choose Forgot password? and we'll email you a link to set a new one.
Why was I signed out?
To keep your business safe, the admin signs you out after a while without activity. Just sign in again; nothing you saved is lost.
How do I turn on two-step sign-in?
In Settings › Account Settings › Sign in & security. After your password you'll also enter a code, so a stolen password alone can't get in.
Want us to take a look?
You can let Cauvie support into your admin to see how things are set up and fix them with you. Turn it on in Settings › Account Settings › Support access for 1, 7 or 30 days.
We can't see payouts, your team or your sign-in settings, every visit is listed for you, and you can switch it off at any time.
